There’s no good reason to give in to Trent Williams contract demands. He’s missed 13 games over the last 4 seasons and never been a strong, vocal leader in the locker room. He’s 34 and way down the back side of his career.
This, like most other stories involving NFL players under contract, is simply a means for an aging player to skip training camp for as long as possible. The team won’t penalize him and will reimburse him for time lost after the holdout is over.
Look for Williams to rejoin the team 2 weeks before the season begins. Also, look for him to miss at least 5 games this year in order to guarantee his pay and stay off injured reserve.
